Self-Assessment: job-seeking example

Core – what defines you?Are you in touch with who you are and where you want to go?This is about strengths, personality, vision, goals, and relationships.How do others see you (on a good day and on a bad day)?

Coherence – a focused beamIs everyone clear about what work you want and what you can offer?

Credibility – you don’t expect a plumber to arrive in a business suit!Do you look the part?Do you build rapport well?Do you sound like someone who does good work, as you talk?
  ... and in the way you ask questions and listen?How do you need to develop your interview skills?

Character  – “people buy people”Can you describe your character?Are you diligent, reliable and enthusiastic? How can you show this?What qualities to you value in others? (Which do you disparage?)Do you listen and value others’ strengths, personalities, and viewpoints?How do you handle setbacks and failure?How can you demonstrate that you are a good team player?Do you buy into the values of the organisation you are applying to?
 
Connectedness - relating with othersAre you making full use of your “network” to build relationships
  ... which will help you to research and to find suitable work?How are you growing your network in breadth and depth?Are you making appropriate use of technology, such as Social Media?Do you have a support network to maintain confidence and perseverance?

Competence – doing a good jobAre you confident that you can to the job?How do you now that you are well suited to this role?How well does your c.v. and other evidence demonstrate this?What training or other support to you want to excel in the role?

CapacityAre the hours, location, pay, and other terms appropriate?Do you have disabilities or dependents that need to be taken into account?

Consistency How do you take time to reflect on and learn from your experiences?How do you organise your time, to produce the best results?

ComplianceHow well do you meet the person specification for this role?How can you make it easy for the employer to recognise this?
